biggest and best of 2020

                                                          General post

So this week as I was reading my January 2020(not a typo the digital issues are a month ahead I believe,) issue of RC Car action magazine they had a beast of a monster truck called the raminator by primal rc. I will give you an idea of scale, because obviously after seeing it I did some research on youtube and its scale is listed at 1/5 so basically a quarter scale. I will now real off the stats.

  • LENGTH:1016MM
  • HEIGHT: 610MM
  • WIDTH: 813MM
  • WHEEL BASE: 610MM
  • WEIGHT: 80LBS
  • TIRE DIAMETER: 305MM
  • RADIO SYSTEM: FLYSKY 6CH
this is the interesting part it has all metal gears and servos as you would expect, but the bit that caught my attention is its got a 49cc pocket bike 2 stroke engine its running nearly a 50cc engine now even without testing one that is going to be some serious power! Now its got all you power peoples attention, now the big question is how much is all this going to set you back I here you all ask, I hope your all sitting comfortably and wives and Girlfriends etc kept away from the screen its going to set you back £2,245.98  yes you read it right nearly 2,250 large ones or the same price as a semi decent second hand 1:1 car! Now when I read about it I knew it wasn't going to be cheap, and we all know this isn't the cheapest hobby out there, definitely the most fun in my honest opinion. However I can't say whether its worth it coz we will probably never own one, I am not sure I would want to at that price, yes they look beastly and have a serious amount of power etc but imagine this  you take it out for a bashing session and you have a serious crash and the engine blows that's going to be a lot of money and yes it will obviously be replaceable the bits that you break but you can bet they aren't going to be cheap. If you are buying one you will need an hour to set it up as the shocks and sway bar need fitting, you can charge the nimh pack for the rx whilst waiting it is all metal so should be able to take a few nocks, it has dual steering as it does in a full size monster truck. If you want to check this truck out search raminator by primal rc on youtube. They also did an article on the best models for 2020, it may or may not come as a surprise all the major players made the list. They had the traxxas maxx at the top of the pile, it is a USA publication so bear that in mind, as I know a fair few people who don't like traxxas' ethics and maybe with good reason but you can't knock the models they produce the quality is evident. I guess it comes down to morals and principles my biggest gripe is the models in the UK tend to be a hundred pounds more than our USA counterparts and their is no way of being able to order traxxas from the US to UK unless you fly there and bring it back that way. The other plus point going for traxxas is the parts availability is generally very good which is always a bonus nothing worse than buying a model having a smash going to order parts and lo and behold non available. Axial obviously featured heavily on the list again with good reason their models are generally outstanding and with good reason they dominate the crawler market which certainly is huge in the UK and I believe even bigger in the USA which isn't surprising given the types of terrain out there, perfectly suited for crawling! Another manufacturer who is growing year on year is arrma and now hopefully they have sorted out parts availability which was certainly a talking point on a few forums. They released in my opinion the most outstanding model for 2019 the arrma infraction that is one outstanding model based loosely on the hoonigan truck and it flies it's a fantastic bit of kit and the £500 price mark is reasonable certainly worth it in my opinion. Losi also made the list who are now owned by horizon hobby along with ecx and a couple more brands I believe. I personally have a ecx amp and it's a rugged buggy and one of my favourites to be fair I have bashed it and done jumps all sorts and so far not had to replace anything even used it in the snow last year and it was great fun. Tamiya made the list with the monster beetle trail which from the specs and the picture looks good I don't have a whole lot of info on it but I will go and research it and let you all know about it. I think 2020 is going to be another good year for RC it's certainly getting bigger in the uk which is good because we should get kids off bums and into this wonderful hobby.
